The pin application is used to apply for an e-file pin from the IRS to participate in the e-file program for Form 941 and Form 940.
Information on applying for a PIN:
- A business taxpayer can prepare and e-file a PIN Application at our website directly.
- The IRS will then mail the PIN to the contact person of the company within 2 weeks.
- After receiving the pin the user can then start to e-file Form 941/940.

- The e-file pin is tied to one company (EIN) only.
- It is intended for individual businesses to e-file their own payroll tax returns.
- If you have multiple companies to file, you will need to submit a pin application for each EIN.
